Women: Northeastern Preview

After a little bit of a rough start against McGill on Wednesday, the Saints rallied for a 4-2 exhibition win. Come Saturday, they'll be dealing with Northeastern in a regular season non-conference matchup. This time, the game is for real.
Wednesday saw all the big names for SLU get on the score sheet. Marchment, Webster, Padalis and Boulier all tallied goals, Padalis, Webster and Boulier on the power play. That is a good sign for the year as the power play struggled at time last year.
Northeastern doesn't have the advantage of a preseason game before Saturday, so that should give SLU an initial leg up on the Huskies.
The Huskies boast some formidable offensive players, most notably Kendall Coyne who recorded 52 points last year and Denisa Krizova, who had 35 points as a first year. Yet, with all that firepower the Huskies still didn't reach the .500 mark last year. Most of that can be contributed to a lackluster defense, one that isn't likely to improve much, especially in the early going.
It will be up to the Saints first defensive pairing of Padalis and Dom Korakianitis to manage Coyne and Krizova. After those two players the scoring threat drastically drops off, meaning one of the two top lines for SLU will have a lot of room to make plays. Look for players like Hannah Miller to have a big impact.
The key player for SLU is Brooke Wolejko. It's her time to be the starter at SLU and this is her first chance to prove she deserves it. If she can deny players like Coyne and Krizova, the Saints should get the win.
