Women's: Midseason thoughts and awards

At 8-5-2, the Saints are right about where I expected at the beginning of the year.  Other than a 7-4 loss to Brown with a lopsided third period and the 5-0 loss to Clarkson, the Saints have been pretty consistent. They lost to the undisputed number one team in the country, BC, but also snagged a tie with them. They upset Clarkson at Appleton on opening night, and got a big win in OT against Harvard at home.
This team has a ton of talent. Jenna Marks has exploded this year with 18 points in 16 games, Brooke Webster has 11 goals in 16 games, and first year Kennedy Marchment has lit it up with 16 points in 16 games. The offense has been flowing freely for the Saints and I wouldn't expect that to change.
The defense has been solid as well, with the exception of a few weak games, and the goaltending has been what would be expected with Carmen MacDonald.
The Saints have some tough opponents int he second half of the year, the toughest being the Golden Gophers on January 4th and 6th. They also have another game against Quinnipiac, Harvard and Clarkson.
The only the things the Saints need to improve is special teams. The PK works at 79% while the power play operates at 13%. Improving those numbers a bit would help the Saints be even better.

MVP: Carmen MacDonald
At 7-5-2 with a 2.35 GAA and a 9.20 save percentage, MacDonald continues to give the Saints a chance to win every single game. No question here.

Unsung Hero: Jackie Wand / Jenna Marks
Wand has 12 points in 16 games this year, a solid production clip. But more importantly, she plays a key role on the penalty kill and as a veteran in the locker room.
Marks is pretty quietly leading the team in points this year with 18, double the nine she recorded all last season and just three shy of her career total of 21 entering the season.

Top Rookie: Kennedy Marchment
With seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 16 games, Marchment has slotted in nicely in Rylee Smith's old spot on the top line for St. Lawrence. Her and Brooke Webster have great chemistry, and the addition of Wand to that line of late has made it even better.

Players to watch: Marks, Brooke Webster
If she can keep up her scoring pace, along with linemates Kayla Raniwsky and Kailee Heidersbach, they should be very fun to watch and will create an dynamic two line offense for SLU.
Webster has 11 goals in 16 games... Let's see if she can keep that up, because that would be very entertaining to watch.
