Women: Robert Morris Preview

After dropping the first game on Friday, the ladies skated to a tie with BC on Saturday. Now, they play host to Robert Morris this weekend. Last year Robert Morris swept the Saints, but through six games this year, don't appear to be the quite as dominant as they were a season ago.
Through 6 games, RMU has a record of 2-4, having been swept by Bemidji State, along with losses to Maine in overtime and Colgate in regulation.
The Colonials lost three of their top five scorers last year, but retained their two best in Rebecca Vint, now captain, and Brittany Howard, both who recorded 41 points in 34 games. They also return dynamic goaltender Jessica Dodds, who posted a 21-5-3 record in 19 games.
So yes, the talent is still there. Maybe its just a bump at the beginning of the road for a high powered team, but the losses to Colgate and Maine aren't great. Bemidji State is a good team though. But it is still early. Also worth noting SLU got three votes in Monday's USCHO poll.
As far as the Saints go, they've looked darn good. Darn good. Two losses to two top ten teams by one goal each, including a late power play goal by Clarkson. A convincing win against Clarkson on opening night, and a really strong come from behind performance against Boston College for the tie. Kennedy Marchment looks great on the top line with Webster and either McRae or Moore (probably McRae, but it was Moore in game two against BC). The line of Wand-Hon-Williams has looked good. Megan Armstrong has been solid. Padalis is doing her thing. And I've been pleasantly surprised with the play of Dom Korakianitis, who earned her turn on the top pair with Padalis on Saturday.
And yes, as usual, Carmen MacDonald is playing like Carmen MacDonald. No worries there.
If the Saints keep playing the way they have, plus maybe capitalize on a few more chances, they'll be looking real good. The possession was a little off against BC, but BC is one of the top teams in the country, and man are they good.
Basically, the Saints are playing really good hockey right now. And they can probably play even better. They shouldn't (and they won't) take RMU lightly. They have a ton of talent up front and one of the goalies in the NCAA that can match MacDonald. But, if they play the way they did against BC, I'd expect a good weekend.
Puck drops on Friday at 3:30 and 2 on Saturday. The guys have games against Ferris State at night.
Also, just a fun fact: the two teams that SLU has played this year went 6-0 against the Saints last year and outscored St. Lawrence 25-6.
