Preview of men at Miami

After splitting last weekend with Ferris State the Saints head to Ohio to take on the Red Hawks. Last weekend was a good showing for the Saints. Kyle Hayton had a lot of work on Friday, and showed that he was up to it. Saturday was a solid performance by everyone on the ice against the fourth ranked team in the country.
Now the Saints square off against the tenth ranked team. The Red Hawks have some great offensive talent in Riley Barber, Austin Czarnik and Sean Kuraly as well as other solid talents. Loui Belpedio can bring the points from the back end as well.
Both Miami goalies are capable, but Ryan McKay got more of the starts last year. This could be a situation where Rico Blasi plays McKay one night and Jay Williams the other.
I would expect at some point Carvel will want to get either Parks or McDonald a start, but maybe not against the tenth ranked team in the country. I'd expect Hayton in net for both contests.
Against a good defensive team in Ferris State, the Saints scored four goals in two games. If they tighten up defensively the way they did on Saturday, they've already proved they can beat elite teams. Miami averages 37 shots a game, and if SLU keeps them to that average, Hayton has proved he can steal games. If SLU can block shots well and keep sticks in the lanes like they did Saturday, they should be able to continue to "surprise" people. (I'm not surprised, I thought they'd do this).
However, its not fair to lay all the success on Hayton. The defense in general has been solid. Ben Masella has played well, as has Eric Sweetman and Chris Martin. Gavin Bayreuther hasn't been super noticeable on the offensive side of the puck, but I have confidence that will change.
As long as SLU plays the way they did on Saturday, uptempo and responsible with the puck, they should be just fine this weekend in Ohio.
Just a side note: Drew Smolcysnki is tied for the national lead in assists with 6 through four games.
