Earlier today it was announced that former RIT goalie Jared DiMichiel would fill Kris Mayotte's vacant position as assistant coach on Greg Carvel staff. While there was a SLU alum, Sean Flanagan, in the mix, as I figured, the Saints went with DeMichiel. This is total speculation, but I think the reason they went with DeMichiel, among other things, is that he is a goalie. With the departure of Mayotte, the Saints had no goalies on the coaching staff, and while there is rarely a coach with the title "Goalie Coach" in NCAA hockey, I figured that has to play a role when selecting a coaching staff.
Just a little bit about DeMichiel: He was an assistant at Nazareth College for the last two years, and also played a season of professional hockey in the AHL and ECHL in 2010-2011. In his four years at RIT, he played in 66 games, recording 41 wins.
