Women: Quinnipiac series recap

Today the St. Lawrence women's team was officially eliminated from the ECAC playoffs, losing 2-1 to Quinnipiac. After suffering a 5-0 shutout loss in game 1 of the series, the ladies came out in game two looking much sharper.
Quinnipiac went up 2-0 after the first period, and owned a slight lead in terms of momentum.
The second period was much better for the Saints. They successfully killed off a 5 minute major penalty, and had a lot of good scoring chances. It seemed as if they played most of the middle frame in Quinnipiac's zone, but couldn't solve Chelsea Laden.
The third period was much of the same for the Saints. Tons of chances, and tons of saves by Laden. It wasn't until late in the third, with roughly 3 minutes to play in the game, the the Saints finally put a puck past Laden. Mel Desrochers fired a shot from the point with the goalie pulled that caught Laden out of position, and sneaked in between the right pad and the post. The Saints were on the board and within one. Unfortunately, they couldn't score to tie the game, and fell 2-1.
It is tough pill to swallow for a Saints team that has so much talent, and has the willingness to fight for every inch of ice, and battle for every puck. Sometimes, you just run into a hot goaltender, and that's what happened on Saturday.
It's pretty unlikely the Saints will make the NCAA tournament, so this is it for this season in terms of posts on the women's team. Maybe a post on the four seniors, but until they announce next years schedule, captains, and new players, that's pretty much all she wrote. It was a ton of fun writing about the women, even if I jumped on board a little late, but I'll be along for the whole ride next season.
Until then, here we go Saints.
