Princeton recap

Tonight was the last regular season game at Appleton Arena, and also senior night for a star studded class of players. The Saints faced the Princeton University Tigers, trying to secure home ice for the first round of the playoffs.
Senior Captain Kyle Essery opened the scoring for the Saints 2:22 into the game.  Jeremy Wick lit the lamp less than 90 seconds later, as he blasted a snapshot from the top of the left face-off dot that beat Colton Phinney. That was the end of Phinney's night, as Sean Bonar replaced him after Wick's goal. Wick potted his second of the game late in the first on a breakaway, when he decked out Bonar and went five hole to put the Saints up 3-0.
Wick finished off the hat trick midway through the second period when he found a puck in the slot and beat Bonar. To that point in the game, everything in the Saints game was working well, except for their power play.  Gavin Bayreuther solved that issue late in the second. He skated into the middle of the ice, and found the puck, and proceeded to rip an absolute bomb of a slap shot that flew past Bonar's head before he could even react.
The Saints didm;t score in the third, but both Greg and Matt Carey had so many chances, it baffles me how neither of them didn't score.
Riley Austin was the only senior who didn't record a point in tonights game. Yes, Weninger, the goalie who holds numerous records at St. Lawrence, got an assist on Wick's breakaway goal.
The Saints head into the playoffs next weekend, as they host Brown, who they went 0-1-1 against this year in the regular season. I'll have a preview for the series, but no coverage. I'm headed to Florida for some Bruins hockey against the Lightning and Panthers.
