Women: SLU defeats RPI for points in 4 straight

On the backs of power play goals from Dayle Wilkinson, Brooke Webster, and Kirsten Padalis, the St. Lawrence women's team doubled up RPI 4-2 last night. Ellie Williams opened the scoring for the Saints early, scoring just 4:20 into the game. Mel Desrocher's shot was stopped by Kelly O'Brien, but Margo Lund made a tricky play, kicking the puck to Wiliams who buried the chance for her first of the year. Jordan Smelker beat Carmen MacDonald high glove from the slot at 7:17 of the first period to even the score. Brooke Webster continued to add to her goal total as she scored on the power play at 10:51 to put the Saints back on top of the Engineers, but again, RPI would respond to tie it less than five minutes later. The first period ended with the tams knotted at 2.
After the 4 goal first period, the game slowed down a bit, but when the Saints got a power play just past the midway point of the period, Dayle Wilkinson capitalized on the advantage, tipping in a Desrochers shot for her third of the year to put the Saints up for good. Kirsten Padalis added a goal on the power play late in the second as well, and by late I mean with one second to play, as she blasted a shot in from the point.
The third period was scoreless, and although Union pulled their goalie, they couldn't solve the Saints defense or MacDonald, something that has become the norm of late. MacDonald made 24 saves in the game, and the Saints power play went 3 for 6. The Saint PK went 3 for 4, and SLU won the battle in the face off dot 35-25.  Desrcohers (2A), Padalis (1G,1A), and Brooke Webster (1G,1A) all had three point games, and in total, nine different Saints found the scoresheet.
