Women: Princeton recap

Carmen MacDonald recorded her second shutout in three games, and Kailee Heidersbach scored a pair of first period goals as SLU defeated #8 Quinnipiac 3-0 today.
SLU opened the scoring 6:20 into the game. Jess Hon fired a shot on net, and it trickled through Chelsea Laden's pads, and Heidersbach tapped it home to put the Saints up by 1. Roughly six minutes later, Kayla Raniwsky carried the puck in deep, and tried a wrap around. Although she was denied, Heidersbach's back hand on the rebound was able to get past Laden to give the Saints a 2 goal lead. The first period ended with the Saints holding the 2-0 lead.
The second period was scoreless, but not without action. There were several times where Quinnipiac could have scored, but they were either stoned by MacDonald, denied by a SLU stick, or simply missed the net.
The third period was much of the same, with many chances for both teams, but the only goal came from Mel Desrochers.  She was able to beat Laden while she was falling down, which made it unrealistic to do the moonwalk for a celebration like she promised, but I think the goal was enough. The goal tied her with Rylee Smith for the team lead, but was also her 25th career goal, a SLU record for a female defenseman.
MacDonald made 24 saves for her third shutout of the season, and SLU pulled within 1 point of Quinnipiac for fourth in the ECAC with four games left in the regular season.
Saints are back in action on Friday at Dartmouth, before a huge matchup at Harvard on Saturday.
