Women: Princeton preview

Although they lost to Syracuse 3-0 on Tuesday, in the ECAC, the women are on a 5 game unbeaten streak, and a three game win streak. Now, they'll put their streak to the test in a set of very important games against Princeton and Quinnipiac. Princeton comes to Appleton on Friday in a game that finishes up the #SaintsgoSocial week.  The game however, is all business. Princeton trails SLU in the standings by just three points, having gone 7-7-2 in conference play. SLU already beat the Tigers 4-1 in November. Mel Desrochers had a 3 point game, and SLU got power play goals from Brooke Webster and Desrochers. Carmen MacDonald made 27 saves.
Now, with points at a premium, both teams will come out with intensity, SLU looking to widen the gap, Princeton looking to narrow it. Princeton scores 2.5 goals per game, and allows 2.7, while SLU scores 2.07 goals per gam, but allows 2.2. The teams are fairly similar on paper, so, as has been the norm this year,  the game depends on the goalies. Can Carmen MacDonald outplay Kimberly Newell? I think so, especially given her stellar play of late.
Other than MacDOnald, the key player for SLU will be Desrochers. The Saints leading scorer, and top defensive player will have to dictate the flow of the game.  The offense flows through her, and if she and Dayle Wilkinson are able to shut down Princeton's top players, like Denna Laing and Sally Butler, the Saints should be able to earn two points.
Rylee Smith is 1 goal away from 50 career goals, continue to watch out for that.
