Women: MacDonald registers shutout, SLU wins 1-0

The Saints extended their win streak to 3 games last night, as they defeated Union 1-0 in a close, highly competitive game.
The first period was entertaining, with both goalies making some great saves, and stealing the show. In all, 26 shots were fired on net, and the goalies were up to the task. SLU was unsuccessful on the only power play opportunity of the period.
The second period was much of the same, as the goaltenders continued to dictate the game. Each team had 2 power play chances, but again, no one could find the back of the net.
In the third period, Union gave SLU plenty of chances to score, including 3 power plays.  The first two were killed by Union, but on the third, Mel Desrochers got the puck to Dayle Wilkinson, who skated into the zone, and used a Union defenseman to screen a shot that beat Shenae Lundberg, and gave SLU a 1-0 lead. It was Wilkinson's fourth goal of the year, and her second power play goal in two games. All four of her goals have come on the power play, and two of them, including yesterday's, are game winners.
Carmen MacDonald improved to 9-9-3 on the season, and recorded her second shutout, stopping all 24 Union shots. SLU is now 3-0-2 in their last five games, and will look to continue the run of good play against Syracuse on Tuesday, before playing Quinnipiac and Princeton this week. I would expect MacDonald to get a game off against Syracuse, and either Guilia Mazzochi or Mikaela Thompson to get the start in net.
