Player spotlight: Carmen MacDonald, G

Its been a bit of an up and down season for the women, with lows like their seven game losing streak, but highs such as weekend sweeps against Union and RPI, and wins against ranked teams like Quinnipiac, and a thrilling 1-1 tie with Cornell. There have some been inconsistencies with both the offense and defense, including a goalless streak that lasted three games, but one part of the Saints game has been solid all year: The play of junior goalie Carmen MacDonald. The Pictou, Nova Scotia native ranks fourth in the ECAC with a 1.96 GAA and third in the ECAC with a .935 save percentage. She also has 629 saves on the year, and three shutouts. Her .500 record of 10-10-3 is merely a reflection of the tough stretch of games the Saints played in December and early January, with 6 straight games against highly ranked opponents. Although she lost those games, she has also won games against ranked opponents like Quinnipiac, and registered ties with top teams like Cornell and Quinnipiac.
MacDonald's play this year has been a large part of the reason St. Lawrence was able to win games, having made more than 35 saves 5 times, including a 46 save performance in a 1-1 tie against Quinnipiac, and 51 saves in a 1-1 against Cornell. She's been a workhorse for the Saints, having logged over 1300 minutes played this season. Saints head coach Chris Wells has full confidence in his goalie, saying, "Carmen has the ability to win games. She has a real good feel for the type of game we are in, and is proven under pressure".
As the Saints head into the final four games of the season, they will rely on MacDonald night in and night out to make the saves they need to win games, as she has done all year. MacDonald and the Saints face Dartmouth, Harvard, Union, and RPI in their final four games, starting this Friday with the game at Dartmouth, a 7:00 PM puck drop.
