Men: RPI preview

Well, they did it. They won their first game since November, when they beat North Dakota. And it was against Union, the top ECAC team, and the fourth ranked nationally. Now, after that rousing win, the men will take the ice at Appleton against RPI, looking to continue their good play.
RPI was predicted to be one of the best teams this year in the ECAC, but the loss of star goaltender Jason Kasdorf early in the year crippled RPI, and they sit at eight in the conference, just two points ahead of St. Lawrence, so this game is huge for the Saints.
RPI wins games with offense, and their biggest player is definitely the offensive guru Ryan Haggerty, who has 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points. He didn't play against Clarkson last night due to a suspension, but will be back for tonights game, lucky us! Maybe he'll have a little rust, but I wouldn't count on that. The Saints played some great defense last night, and Matt Weninger played one of his better games of the year, but to win tonight, they'll need even better defense, and just as good play from Weninger, who will almost definitely be in net.
Greg Carey extended his points streak to 20 games last night with an assist on Smolcynski's second period goal, and a few points from him would certainly help. Little brother Matt has 30 points this year, and production from him tonight will also be paramount. But, it all comes down to defense, and whether the Saints can mirror their performance from last night. If they can, there's a good chance they win, but if not, it might be Colgate all over again.
Puck drop at 7:00. Its a white out, so you know, wear white.
