Men: Harvard recap

The men had to settle for a tie last night against Harvard, taking one point in a weekend where they could have gotten four.
There was no scoring in the first period, but the play of the Carey line was a sign of things to come.
Harvard opened the scoring on a five on three power play with a snap shot from the slot that beat Weninger. 6 minutes later, the Saints got their own power play chance, having gone 0-4 in the game to that point. At a time where SLU really needed a goal, their big guns came through. The puck moved from Bayreuther to Baker, and finally to Greg Carey, who fired a wristshot top shelf from the faceoff circle. The goal was his first since the UVM game. Harvard got a late goal to go up 2-1.
To start the third period, the Saints had a power play.  This time, Matt Carey came through, as his brother found him below the faceoff circle with a quick pass, that Matt one-timed in to tie the game. The tie would last through the third, and into OT.  The Saints had a few good chances in the extra period but couldn't capitalize. They then took a too many men on the ice penalty with 21.6 seconds left. Their best chance to win the game came while shorthanded. There was a faceoff in the defensive zone with roughly 9 seconds left, enough time for one breakaway. That's exactly what Gunnar Hughes got, but as the clock winded down, he fired a shot just over the crossbar. The game ended in a tie.
It was a tough weekend for the Saints, who easily could have, and probably should have swept. Instead they went 0-1-1.
They'll be back in action next weekend on the road at Union and RPI.
