Men: Dartmouth recap, Harvard preview

Last night, the men dropped a 3-1 decision to Dartmouth, a game they should have won.  They had already beaten Dartmouth once, and were coming off a weekend sweep of Princeton and Quinnipiac.
SLU took a lead early in the second period, when Jeremy Wick was able to beat Charles Grant on the power play. Baker and Bayreuther got the assists. About ten minutes later, Brandon McNally beat Matt Weninger with a nice shot from the slot on the power play to tie the game. A neutral zone breakdown three minutes later led to a Dartmouth breakaway, and Grant Opperman deked out Weninger to give Dartmouth the late second period lead.
The Big Green opened a two goal early in the third, when another neutral zone play was broken up. It resulted in an odd man rush, and Jesse Beamish was able to move the puck across the slot, and Charlie Mosey tipped it past a sliding Weninger.
SLU had three grade A chances to score in the third. Alex Dahl put a back hand over the net when Grant had no chance of saving it. Kyle Essery was unable to elevate a back hand to get it over Grant's left pad, and Matt Carey flat out missed the net on a wide open chance late in the third on a power play. SLU also failed to capitalize on several power plays, including a short five on three.
All in all it was a bad game for the Saints.  Their best player was Weninger, who I really wouldn't blame for any of the goals.  The problem was the lack of production from the big players. Wick scored, but the guys who have been recently, like Doherty, Ward, and Matt Carey. SLU got no points from Greg or Matt, and that will have to change tonight against Harvard.
Harvard is another team that SLU can beat.  They already have once, winning 3-1, with goals from Chris Martin, Greg Carey, and Alex Hagen. Harvard defeated Clarkson 1-0 last night in OT, which proves that they can stay with, and beat teams that are better than the Saints. SLU will have to bring their A game, offensively, physically, and defensively, to beat the Crimson.
Harvard has two dangerous scorers in Jimmy Vesey, a third round pick of the Nashville Predators, and Kyle Criscuolo.
Harvard doesn't have a great offense, and their power play is bad, there's no way around it. That's good for the Saints, who have improved defensively, but relapsed last night. Harvard's defense is better, and their penalty kill is outstanding. The Saints will have to get some good chances on the power play if they get any chances, but the game will rest on the Carey's.
Greg has now gone 9 games without a goal, and he had some excellent chances last night. It's time for him to get out of the penalty box and into the goal column. SLU needs him to score, and they need his brother too. Matt has been playing fine of late, but when he gets chances like the one he had last night, he needs to score.
If the Carey's have a good game, I think the Saints should be able to win.
Puck drops at 7:00
