Men: Dartmouth preview

After a rousing victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday, the men return to the friendly confines of Appleton Arena to face the Dartmouth Big Green. SLU already defeated DC once this year, an 8-5 victory in which Matt Carey recorded a hat trick for the Saints, and Pat Doherty recorded two goals, including a shorthanded goal. It was the USCHO poll after that game that saw the Saints ranked 17th, which really was the beginning of the slide for St. Lawrence. Now, the Saints are 3-1 in their last 5 games, and are coming off a sweep of Princeton and Quinnipiac, and will look to continue the good play.
Dartmouth is eleventh in the ECAC with 7 points, just 1 point ahead of Princeton. They rank 11th in goals for, and tenth in goals against, allowing more than 3.5 goals per game. Dartmouth also has a terrible -30 goal differential. This is an ideal matchup for the Saints, who can put up a ton of goals, but have also improved lately on defense.
Eric Neiley is the leading scorer for Dartmouth with 15 points, while Brandon McNally is second with 13. Neiley has ten goals, which is a solid number, but the next closest is Grant Opperman with 5. Essentially, stop Neiley, and you have a good chance of winning.
Another key stat is Dartmouth's PK percentage, which sits at just 75.6%.  Essentially target practice for a SLU power play working at 32.6%.  They'll need to capitalize on their chances.
The key player for the Saints is a tie between Matt Weninger and Greg Carey. Greg is one of the top scorers in college hockey, but hasn't found the back of the net since the second UVM game, a drought of 8 games. He has recorded 9 assists in that span, but needs to start putting up goals again. If he can get back in the groove, along with the secondary scoring that has come alive of late, the Saints will be in great position.
The other important player for the Saints is Weninger.  When he plays well, the Saints do as well, and he has been playing great of late.  If that continues, the Saints will be the late season threat they usually are, and should have no problem winning tonight.
