Another update on the women's standings.

I already sort of wrote one of these, but I felt like I should do another one, just because of how interesting the situation in the battle for the last home ice spot in the first round is for the women. There are two teams jockeying for the the number four spot, the last one that guarantees home ice for the first round. St Lawrence sits in fifth with 23 points, while Quinnipiac is in possession of the fourth seed with 25 points.
Princeton is two points back of SLU with 21, but even if they sweep and Quinnipiac loses out this weekend, Quinnipiac owns the tie break over the Tigers, having gone 1-0-1 this season in the head to head matchup. Therefore, the race is between the Saints and Bobcats.
The first order of business for SLU is to secure a sweep this weekend against Union and RPI, at home. They already took four points from the teams on the road, defeating RPI 4-2, and shutting out Union 1-0, winning on a late power play goal from Dayle Wilkinson. If they get the sweep, they finish with 27 points. Then they'll need some help.
Quinnipiac's final two games will be against Cornell and Colgate. 'Gate is third to last in the ECAC standings with 12 points, eliminated from a playoff spot, so lets just assume the Bobcats will take care of business on Saturday against them. The key, however, is Cornell. The Big Red have been red hot all year, holding the top spot in the ECAC, and are ranked third in the country. Quinnipiac is a good team, but Cornell is better, and every laurentian should be praying that Cornell wins. If that happens, provided SLU sweeps, the Saints and Bobcats finish the season in a tie with 27 points. A tie between Cornell and 'Gate is no good for SLU, because that would give Q'pac 28 points. It has to be a loss.
If the scenario plays out in that way, SLU holds the tie breaker, having gone 1-0-1 against the Bobcats, and there will be playoff hockey at Appleton arena this year. Don't worry, I've been knocking on wood every ten seconds while I was writing this.
Bottom line, it all comes down to this weekend being a sweep for the Saints, and you can bet you'll hear me yelling at the games, as usual.
Knock on wood.
