Women's: SLU vs. Cornell

After breaking their losing streak with a 1-1 tie against Yale on Saturday, the women's team return home with students at SLU for the first time in almost two months. Their opponent is the second ranked Cornell Big Red. Not exactly the homecoming welcome they would like, but it is what it is.
Cornell has the number one offense in the ECAC, headlined by Jillian Saulnier, with 15 goals and 29 points, and Emily Fulton, with 11 goals and 28 points. Stopping those two players will be huge for the Saints, but that won't do the trick. Cornell also allows less than two goals per game in ECAC contests. And yes, this is an ECAC game.
For the Saints to win, they're best player(s) will have to be the defense. The defensive corps, with only five actual defenseman, has just one player who is a positive, Dom Korakianitis at +2, with Vicky Leimgardt at 0, but they still get the job done pretty well in front of Carmen MacDonald, mainly with a lot of blocked shots by Padalis and Wilkinson. They will really need to play great in order to give their offensive players a chance to score. If the Saints can hold Cornell to two, maybe three goals, they definitely have the offensive talent to get enough chances to win, it will just come down to whether they can over power the stifling Cornell defense.
Also, I'll keep saying this until it happens: Rylee Smith is now just two goals away from 50 career. She is already over the 100 point mark for her SLU career.
