Women's: Brown recap, Yale preview

The difficult stretch for the women continued as they dropped a 4-2 decision to Brown, which is just the second win this year for Brown. I really thought that would be a game that could kickstart the rest of the season for them, but they couldn't get the win against a desperate Brown team.
Mel Desrochers continued her impressive offensive campaign as she opened the scoring with her eight goal of the year, and the Saints played a high tempo game to maintain the lead entering the second period. It was only 57 seconds into the second that Brown tied the game, and the Bears had several good chances to take a lead, but the Saints kept the puck out. Junior forward Jessica Hon gave SLU a 2-1 lead as she used patience to beat Aubree Moore with a wrister from the right side. The Bears tied after a penalty kill, and then scored 26 seconds into the third to take a lead. They iced the game with an empty net goal.
My guess is the SLU ran into a hot goalie, as Moore stopped 28 of 30 SLU shots. Sometimes you can play really well and not win, and although I didn't see any of the game, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case last night, not to take anything away from the Brown team.
This afternoon the women play Yale, and this is another good game that the Saints can use to get back in the win column. This Yale team is a much better team than they were last year, but still aren't the cream of the crop. The Saints already beat Yale this year, 4-1 at Appleton, on the back of three third period goals. I think the Saints simply need to continue to play the way they have of late, and the wins will come, especially against a team like Yale that the Saints know they can beat.
Puck drop at 4:00 PM
