UVM recap

SLU dropped their final game of the 2013 calendar year to UVM tonight.  It was also their fourth straight loss.  Overall, it seemed like a lackadaisical effort from a team that needed to bounce back from a weekend sweep.
UVM opened the scoring 9:37 into the first period on the power play, and followed up with a second goal at 13:49.  The game could have gotten out of hand there, but the Saints settled down, and headed to the locker room down two.
The second period started well for the Saints, as Greg Carey deked around a defender at the blue line, stepped in and fired a shot on net.  It clanged off the post and bounced off the UVM netminder's back before trickling over the goal line.  SLU had several power play opportunities to tie the game, but the nations top unit was shut down by the Catamount penalty killers.  UVM then extended their lead back to two at 17:39 of the second.
They scored at 14:02 of the third, before scoring an empty netter to seal the loss for the Saints.
The game was only the third time the Saints were held to less than three goals, and the first time they only scored one.  Its also only the second game of the year where the Saints failed to score a power play goal, and the first time since the opening game against Maine.
The Saints conclude the 2013 semester with a record of 8-9-2, but lost 7 of the last 9.  They start 2014 play against UVM at Appleton Arena on January 7th.
