Another year, another sweep

Yet again, Clarkson has swept the regular season series with St. Lawrence, winning 4-3 last night. I will say, even though SLU lost, the atmosphere in the rink was better than even the feeling inside TD Garden for game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.
Early in the game it looked like the Saints were going to flatten the Golden Knights.  It was only 33 seconds in when Greg Carey fired a shot on Lewis that broke through his arm and rolled into the net. A minute 26 seconds later, Matt Carey found himself alone below the left faceoff circle on the power play.  Greg found him with a pass, and Matt fired it home to make it 2-0.  Two power play goals for Clarkson from Sam Lebrecque and Knights captain Ben Sexton to tie the game and slow SLU's momentum.  Another power play for SLU turned into another power play goal for Matt Carey, and the Saints headed to the locker room up 3-2.
The intermission was what Clarkson needed, as they came out hard, and tied the game just 3:04 in on Jeff DiNallo's goal.  Each team had lots of chances, but the score was tied at the end of the second.
The third period was identical to the second, and Joe Zarbo's goal 2:33 in would prove to be the game winner. Towards the end, SLU had several power plays which they couldn't capitalize on, and Kyle Essery almost fired a one timer five hole on Steve Perry, but in the end, SLU could not tie the game, and Clarkson swept the route 11 rivalry.
Overall, I underestimated Clarkson's offense and their ability outscore a team like the Saints.  SLU's power play didn't play great, despite the 5 goals in two games, and it couldn't make up for the defensive woes.
SLU plays its final game of the year at UVM next Saturday.
