Women's preview

The women's team takes a trip to our neighbor to the North to play McGill in exhibition this Saturday, the only game they have this weekend.  Right now, the women hold a 5-7 overall record, but are in a tie for third place with a strong 4-2 ECAC record.  This game doesn't technically count, but nevertheless, the Saints will be looking for a strong game against McGill.  Right now Saint defenders are creating a lot of offense. Mel Desrochers is on fire, having already eclipsed her point output from last year, while Dayle Wilkinson has matched her ten point total from last season.  Freshman Brooke Webster is having a solid start to her freshman year, with 8 points in 12 games, and both Alex Moore and Kayla Raniwsky are coming off multi point games against Dartmouth.  Rylee Smith is second to Desrochers for the team lead with 12 points.  Essentially the offense is clicking for the women, just like the men, so, much like the men, the issue is defense.  The Saints have been scored on 32 times in 12 games, but also have two shutouts, including a 7-0 win over Montreal  Consistency in the defensive zone should be a focus for the Saints, and could be the key to turning a good ECAC start into an excellent finish.
The women are on the road the next three weekends, but then we hit Christmas break, and they begin the second semester on the road.  The next home game is actually January 10, 2014, so be sure to make it to that game if you can, it will be a great one.
