Women's: Mercyhurst midweek series preview

After a solid weekend against Princeton and Quinnipiac, the St. Lawrence women's team travels to Mercyhurst for a two game set, which will conclude their 2013 play.  Mercyhurst takes an 8-5-2 record into the series, and had been ranked 10th in the country, but dropped out following this weekend.
Mercyhurst is known for its stingy defense, and they have allowed just 1.9 goals per game to opponents.  But, they aren't exactly blowing the other teams out of the water, as the score just 2.7 goals per game.
For SLU, coming off two great defensive and goaltending performances, the focus will most likely be directed towards stopping Christine Bestland and Emily Janiga, who lead the Mercyhurst squad with 7 goals apiece.
Again, the most important player for St. Lawrence will be the goaltender, and my guess would be that Carmen MacDonald gets at least one, and probably both starts, after her great performance this weekend.  If MacDonald makes the timely saves, and the defense, led by senior captains Mel Desrochers and Dayle Wilkinson, continues to play as they did over the weekend, the offense should click as a result, and the Saints can take away two more wins.
Puck drops at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, and 3:00 PM Wednesday.
