Men's: Tough night for Weninger and Saints

Last night, the men dropped their second straight ECAC contest, this time to the 19th ranked Big Red from Cornell.  The final score was 5-2, but aside from a sluggish start, the Saints didn't play that poorly.
Cornell opened the scoring on a power play 5:39 in, as Joel Lowry took a shot that bounced off Weninger's shoulder then the post before going in.  Greg Carey evened St. Lawrence on a power play of their own, on a great shot from the slot.  Lowry got his second goal of the game just 44 seconds later, chipping the puck up and over Weninger's shoulder, again on the power play.  Brian Ferlin scored later that period, and Weninger was pulled in favor of Tyler Parks.  John McCarron put Cornell up by 3 when he put home a rebound at the side of the net that Parks gloved down, put couldn't hold on to.
In the second period, St. Lawrence came out much stronger, and Sean McGovern scored on a partial breakaway off a great pass from Alex Dahl, going five hole on Andy Iles.  St. Lawrence really ramped up the pressure, and had quite a few great chances, but the Cornell defense got in the shooting lanes, and when SLU did get a shot on, Iles was up to the task.
It was much of the same in the third period, and Cornell scored late to make it 5-2, which ended up being the final.
St. Lawrence's defense has been really porous recently, and last night especially, there were a lot of broken entries into the offensive zone which led to odd man rushes going the other way.  I also saw a difficulty in handling passes, and I can remember one chance that Justin Baker had in the third at the side of the net where he had a wide open net, but couldn't settle the puck.
In conclusion, the scoreboard doesn't necessarily indicate the way the game played out, but when St. Lawrence plays teams like Quinnipiac and Clarkson, the Bobcats and Golden Knights are real good, so whatever the defensive issues are that have plagued the Saints recently, if they aren't remedied by then, those games could be ugly.
