Harvard Recap

Last night the Saints downed Harvard 3-1, thanks to another solid performance by Matt Weninger.  SLU took the lead just 2:45 into the game, when Greg Carey moved the puck to Riley Austin on the point, who took a wristshot that Chris Martin tipped past Raphael Girard.  Later that period, Eric Sweetman made a nice pass to Chris Martin who tool the puck deep into Harvard's zone, before leaving the puck for a speeding Greg Carey.  Carey picked it up, and in one motion snapped it over the shoulder of Girard to give SLU a 2-0 lead.  The shot came from a very tough angle to score on, just about the bottom of the faceoff circle.
Jimmy Vesey was able to redirect a point shot on the power play from Brian Hart, that beat Weninger, and brought the Crimson to within one of SLU.
With 49 seconds to play in the second, Eric Sweetman fired a shot on net, and Alex Hagen was able to backhand the rebound past Girard to give the Saints the 2-goal lead again.  This time, St. Lawrence would keep the lead.
Greg Carey's fifth goal of the season would prove to be the game winner, and it would also tie him for the team lead in points.  But Carey now also leads the ECAC with 15 points, and is tied for the national lead in points with Riley Barber and Austin Czarnik.
Matt Weninger made 18 saves, and the only goal against was a power play tip in, always a difficult situation for a goalie to make a save in.
SLU remains undefeated in ECAC play, and currently hold a 1-0-2 record.  They play Dartmouth tonight, looking to get their second ECAC win, and third road win of the year.
