Men: Looking ahead to 2014-2015

Last years Skating Saints finished 13-17-4 with a 7-11-4 ECAC record, good for eighth in the conference. In a first round tournament matchup with Brown, they swept the Bears, before falling 2 games to none to Colgate in round two. St. Lawrence graduated 8 seniors and lost a total of ten players, once Matt Carey (NHL) and Trevor Hills (transfer) are factored in. Four of SLU's top five scorers (Carey, Carey, Wick, Baker) are gone, leaving just Gavin Bayreuther from last year. Matt Weninger, the stalwart starter in net for four years is also gone, along with solid defensive defensemen Patrick Raley and Riley Austin, as well as valuable penalty killer and captain Kyle Essery. While its great to see many of those guys go on to play professionally, the task is now to find a way to replace them and ice a competitive team. Men: 2017 is here, lets get it started right

The calendar has flipped to 2017, leaving behind a year in which both hockey programs found a great deal of success. Both teams earned a berth in the championship weekend before falling to strong opponents in close games. The men won 19 games in 2016 while the women won 23, really good marks for both teams, and in the first half of the 2016-17 season, the programs have amassed 25 wins. With the second half of the season now upon us, the wins become more important, and harder to earn, as ECAC tournament time approaches, and spots in the national tournament on the line. For the men, the season continues with a big matchup against Vermont at the Gutt tomorrow, a game in which a pair of Saints will make their first appearances. Men: A look back at 2015-16

After an expectation shattering 2014-15 season, St. Lawrence entered 2015-16 with slightly more excitement. Picked to finish second in preseason polls, they wound up in fourth and returning to Lake Placid, losing to Harvard in overtime. It started out pretty well for St. Lawrence, as the first half saw them head into their midseason break with a 10-5-2 record, their best record at the midpoint since 2005-6. They endured a disappointingly characteristic slide in January which dropped them out of the picture for an at-large bid, but they bounced back with a strong end to the season, highlighted by wins in overtime over Cornell and Quinnipiac to secure the final home ice spot. Then, the hockey gods granted SLU fans wish, setting up the route 11 rivalry in the playoffs, an insanely close 2 game sweep in favor of the good guys.
