SLU wins second of two with Maine

St. Lawrence skated past UMaine last night 5-2.  Maine opened the scoring on Lomberg's goal, but SLU scored both of the goals in the second period. Bayreuther scored again on the power play to tie the game.  He started the play back in SLU's defensive zone with a pass to center ice, then jumped in the rush and took a pass from Jeremy Wick.  His wrister beat Maine goalie Marty Ouellette glove side high to tie the game. Jeremy Wick gave SLU its first lead after Ouellette left the puck behind the net, and Greg Carey took it away.  Carey put a shot on net that bounced up in the air, and Wick showed off his hands, swatting the puck out of mid-air and into the net.
Maine tied it early in the third on Anthoine's power play goal, but three unanswered goals by SLU sealed the game.  Brian Ward scored first 15 minutes in after a takeaway along the halfboards, and Greg Carey bulged the twine with a beautiful shot from the slot just 48 seconds later.  Carey then hit the open net with 58 seconds to go to make it all but official.
Impressive performances: Matt Weninger let in just three goals over two games for a 1.5 GAA, and stopped 58 of 61 Maine shots for a save percentage of 95%.  Gavin Bayreuther continues to impress with yet another goal, his second in as many regular season games.  He added an assist last night to bring his point total to three.
Next up: SLU travels to Big Rapids, MI to play a pair of games against Ferris State.  Ferris State split their two games against ECAC opponent Colgate last weekend, and face Mercyhurst on Tuesday.
