Carleton Recap

The Saints got off to a good start last night, defeating Carleton University 4-2.  Carleton took the lead on a shorthanded goal, a nifty backhand deke on a breakaway, but Jeremy Wick tied the game in the second with a top shelf goal, with the assists going to the Carey brothers.

Freshman Gavin Bayreuther gave SLU the lead with 5 minutes remaining in the second on the power play of a clean face-off win by Matt Carey.  Big brother Greg Carey scored on a two on one with Wick in the third, which would go on to be the game winner, and despite Carleton narrowing the lead to one on a misplay by SLU goalie Matt Weninger, Matt Carey's empty net goal sealed the win for the Saints.
Weninger made 18 saves in the win, and the top line of Carey-Carey-Wick combined for 11 of the 12 recorded points in the game.

(Senior Goalie Matt Weninger stopped 18 of 20 shots in the win)
SLU opens the regular season against the University of Maine next Friday at 7:00 P.M. at Appleton.
