Back in the win column

Last night, SLU snapped a two game losing streak with a solid win over the Huskies, 6-4.  Matt Carey opened the scoring for SLU at 10:09 of the first with a nice snap shot from outside the left faceoff circle that beat goalie Derick Roy stick side.  This goal was his third of the season with assist to Woody Hudson and Chris Martin.  However, the student section had not even finished singing "Oh When The Saints" when Northeastern scored to even it at 1-1.  But Justin Baker picked up a rebound from the slot and fired it past Roy to give SLU the lead less than a minute after Northeastern tied it.  Just 1:36 later that period Justin Baker fed the puck to Jeremy Wick who made a quick pass to Greg Carey who pushed it into the net to make it 3-1.
In the second period, 11:55 in Northeastern scored to make it 3-2, and a lot of people in the crowd, myself included, thought "Oh no, here we go again".  The last two games, against Northeastern and Ferris State, SLU blew consecutive two goal leads.  But, around the 15 minute mark, Gavin Bayreuther hit Greg Carey with a pass who took the puck along the boards before passing it to Justin Baker.  Baker fed the puck across the slot to Wick who one-timed it past Roy to make it 4-2.  Matt Carey scored later the period on the power play as well of a great pass from Jeremy Wick across the crease.  SLU lead 5-2, but Northeastern made it 5-3 on the power play with nine seconds left in the second, but Patrick Doherty's empty net goal sealed the win, despite the Husky goal at 19:00 of the third.  The 6-4 win marks a season high goal tally for the Saints.
In the win, Matt Carey had two goals, Greg Carey had a goal and an assist, Wick had a goal and two assists, and Baker had a goal and three assists.  Tyler Parks made 20 saves in his first career start for the win.
Next weekend SLU travels to Yale and Brown for their first ECAC play this year.
