Saints in the NHL

As the NHL season approaches, several former Saints look to make impacts with their teams.  The most established of the current NHLers who played at SLU is Rich Peverley.  The 31 year old former Saint Captain broke into the league with the Nashville Predators during the 2006-2007 season.  He also played for the Atlanta Thrashers before being traded to the Boston Bruins, where he played in two Stanley Cup Finals and won the Cup in 2011.  He brings his game to the Dallas Stars along with former Bruin teammate and budding superstar Tyler Seguin after an offseason trade.  Peverley could play big minutes on the top two lines for Dallas, and his veteran leadership and penalty killing abilities will be excellent additions to a team that is rebuilding.
Brandon Bollig won the Cup last year, as his Chicago Blackhawks beat Peverley's Bruins in 6 games in a memorable game 6 comeback.  Bollig played for the Saints for two seasons, before bringing his rough a tumble grinder style of play to the Blackhawks organization.  This year he looks to add a scoring punch to his game, and proved he could in the preseason.  Bollig has spent time with both the Blackhawks and their AHL affiliates, the Rockford Ice Hogs, a team coached by Teddy Dent, also a former Saint player, since turning pro, but looks to be on his way to spending more and more time with the big club.
The newest addition to the pro ranks from the North Country is Kyle Flanagan.  Now in Philadelphia's organization, Flanagan centered the explosive top line for the Saints last year, playing alongside fellow All-American Greg Carey, who should certainly find a home in the NHL after this coming season.  Following the conclusion of his St. Lawrence career, Flanagan played 13 games for the Adirondack Phantoms, the AHL team for the Flyers, scoring a goal and adding 6 assists for 7 points.  Flanagan should start with the Phantoms, but could easily be called up to play in the City of Brotherly Love.
The NHL season begins tomorrow, and these Saints will look to showcase their skills, but all eyes in Canton are on October 11th, when the current Saints open the season against the University of Maine.  Its been 199 days since the Saints last played. 199 days I've waited, you've waited.  199 days.  Now we only have to wait 11 more.  11 days.
Who's ready for some hockey?
