My Preseason Predictions

With opening night at Appleton Arena roughly 6 weeks away, I figured now was as good a time as any to share my preseason predictions for St. Lawrence.  Here's how I see the season playing out for the Saints:

After losing to Yale in the quarterfinals of the ECAC championship, and missing the NCAA tournament, St. Lawrence still has a bright future, especially for the 2013-2014 season.  Despite losing Kyle Flanagan and George Hughes, the Saints still return several very talented players like Greg Carey, who led the ECAC in goals and points with 28 and 51, respectively.  St. Lawrence also returns their starting goalie, Matt Weninger, who led the ECAC with 1120 saves.  As captain, Kyle Essery will need to maintain his good defensive habits while also increasing offensive output.
Barring any injuries to key players, St. Lawrence looks primed to finish at least in the top five of the ECAC, but I don't think they are nearly as strong as RPI, who I have winning the ECAC regular season title and tournament.
I also predict that St. Lawrence will make the national tournament.  They most likely will not make the frozen four, there are too many teams better than them, such as UML, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, and Rensselaer, to name a few.  All in all, this should be a good season, with many more games played in March and April.
